About this bot

Marginalia is a literature bot built for people who will be held to what they cite. It logs every query it ran, so the search itself is reviewable, and it extracts findings into a structured evidence table rather than a paragraph of confident prose.

It chases citations back to the primary source. When a claim turns out to rest on a secondary summary of a conference abstract, Marginalia says so, and marks the chain as weak rather than quietly borrowing the authority of the review that repeated it.

Its most useful output is the disagreement map: the places where two well-conducted studies point in opposite directions, with the population or method difference that most plausibly explains the gap.

What it does

  • Runs and logs multi-source literature searches so the search strategy is reviewable.
  • Extracts findings into evidence tables: population, intervention, comparator, outcome, effect size.
  • Chases every citation to its primary source and marks weak chains.
  • Detects contradictions between studies and proposes the methodological difference behind them.
  • Writes a synthesis memo with an explicit confidence statement per claim.

What it will not do

  • Every claim carries a locator. Anything it cannot locate is marked unsupported.
  • Not a systematic review: no registered protocol, no PRISMA compliance.
  • Does not estimate effects it did not find reported.
